All about Watamu/Malindi Towns,Kenya

All about Watamu

Watamu is a tiny village but famously known for the nesting of a growing number of sea turtles that sum up to an average of forty nests within a given year. These nests of sea turtles are taken care of in the Watamu/Malindi Marine Parks and National Reserves.

Watamu Turtle watch is a place that benefits from the turtle protection program which incorporates the services f the local residents and intervention of the Kenya Wildlife Services in order to safeguard and protect the nests laid on Malindi and Watamu beaches.

In order to ensure that the local participation is sustained, a financial program is employed in the scheme. Further patrols are organized to monitor the nesting turtles and trail the newly made nests in order to have a biometric data of their number and growth and development progress.
